Free rent receipt template for Kenya (printable)
Updated 31 Oct 2026
Every rent payment deserves a receipt. It's the tenant's proof that they paid, and your record for KRA's rental income tax. Below is a free printable rent receipt: two to a page, one for the tenant and a copy for your records.
What a rent receipt should show
- A receipt number, so each one is unique and you can find it later.
- The date, the tenant's name and the house.
- The amount in figures and words, and the month it's for.
- How it was paid: cash, bank, or M-Pesa with the transaction code (e.g. TJK3XY9ABC).
- The balance still owed, or credit, after this payment.
- The landlord's or caretaker's name and signature.
Why it matters
- For the tenant: proof of payment if there's ever a dispute, and for a reference when they move.
- For you: MRI tax is worked out on the rent you received each month, and receipts are how you show KRA your figures.
- For trust: tenants who always get receipts argue less about balances.
No more receipt books. With Rentipay, every payment (M-Pesa, bank or cash) sends the tenant a receipt by SMS automatically, with the balance. Anyone can check a receipt is genuine at rentipay.org/verify.
